Overview

Social Security Verification allows users to verify their employment history by connecting to their “my Social Security” account on ssa.gov. Through the Transcrypts Bridge widget, users authenticate with their SSA credentials, and Transcrypts securely retrieves official employment records maintained by the Social Security Administration. This method is useful when payroll provider access is unavailable or when a comprehensive, government-sourced employment history is needed.

How It Works

  1. Open Transcrypts Bridge — Your application initializes the Bridge widget using a bridge token.
  2. Select Social Security — The user selects Social Security as their verification source within the Bridge.
  3. Authenticate with SSA — The user enters their SSA credentials through the Bridge. Transcrypts securely connects to the Social Security Administration on the user’s behalf.
  4. Employment history retrieved — Transcrypts pulls the user’s employment history from SSA records. A Task is created and tracked through the standard connection lifecycle.
  5. Data available via API — Once the Task completes, employment data is available through the standard Employment endpoints.

Available Data

SSA records provide the following employment information:

SSA records may not include detailed pay statements, current employer information, or granular income breakdowns (such as bonuses or commissions). For detailed pay data, consider using a payroll-based verification method.

Setup

Social Security Verification is enabled through the Bridge Token configuration. When creating a bridge token, set the appropriate product_type and include Social Security in your data_sources configuration. Refer to the Bridge Token documentation for details on token creation and configuration options.
